Ohio State Fans Hyped Over Latest 4-Star EDGE Commitment
For the 2026 recruiting class, the Ohio State Buckeyes ended in the top three. This season, the fans are hyped because the 2027 class is already looking good with Ryan Day’s program at No.7. What added to their excitement is the Buckeyes’ latest addition of a four-star EDGE.
“BREAKING: Four-Star EDGE Wyatt Smith has Committed to Ohio State, he tells me for @Rivals,” reported On3’s National Recruiting and Transfer Portal Reporter, Hayes Fawcett.
According to On3’s rankings, Wyatt Smith is the No.79 overall prospect nationally and No.8 among EDGEs. He held offers from the 2025 National Championship Winner, the Indiana Hoosiers, the Missouri Tigers, and Notre Dame, among others. But he chose to land in Columbus.
“I committed to Ohio State because of the development, their winning culture and the coaches,” Smith told Rivals. “I feel it is the best place for me to have a chance to compete for a national championship and to develop my skills.”
Smith established himself as one of the country’s top recruits following a breakout junior campaign in 2025. He recorded 155 tackles and 24 tackles for loss while stuffing the stat sheet with standout production.
“Type of prospect where it’s clear that his best football is still ahead of him even after he took a major step forward between his sophomore and junior seasons,” read a part of 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins’ scouting report. “Can go speed to power on the corner. Elite at redirecting with his reaction time.”
Smith is still scheduled to take official visits to the Missouri Tigers football on May 29 and the Ohio State Buckeyes football on June 5, although there is some uncertainty surrounding whether the Missouri visit will actually take place. The fans are already celebrating the momentum.
Fans React as Buckeyes Land Eighth Four-Star in 2027 Class
With Smith, the Buckeyes landed their eighth four-star commitment. Even though they have months to land more commitments, a fan showed his contentment. “The class is coming together nicely. Obviously still got six months, but it's looking good so far,” the comment read. Smith joins five-star EDGE David Jacobs for the 2027 class.
Another fan is looking forward to the long-term impact. “No wonder their defensive line is like an NFL reserve team every year,” he said. Every defensive starter from Ohio State’s College Football Playoff National Championship win over Notre Dame has now reached the NFL after the completion of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Smith comes off as the biggest addition to the defense to another fan. “This commitment alone makes the defense look elite already,” he wrote. During a dominant 2025 season, Smith led St. Thomas Aquinas and Florida’s 5A title-winning squad with 155 total tackles.
A die-hard Buckeyes fan came up with an Ohio State-Michigan rivalry angle. “Ohio State now has the #1 and #11 overall edges in the class will Michigan QBs even be able to get reads off?” read the comment. With No.1 Jacobs and No.11 Smith, he warns that the Michigan quarterbacks will not have enough time to properly read the defense or make decisions.
Smith’s father, Justin, enjoyed a 14-year NFL career after being selected fourth overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2001 NFL Draft out of Missouri.
