Ohio State Named the Most Hated College Football Program Ahead of the 2026 Season
The Film Guy Network surveyed the most hated teams in college football on May 26. Multiple colleges were named on that list, and surprisingly, one of the teams there was the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Host Brooks Austin gathered other college football fans' votes and put Ohio State No. 1 on the list of most hated teams for 2026. However, the reason behind doing so will surprise you.
"Ohio State was overwhelmingly mentioned," said Austin. "I think that's due to the fact that they've had (five) losing seasons since World War II. Just constantly great. Just always at the top.

Now this greatness has become a curse for the non-Ohio fanbase. The Buckeyes have accumulated a double-digit win season every year since 2012. Only for the Covid-shortened 2020 season, they went 7-1.
"They're constantly beating your favorite team, whether it be in the regular season or in big-time football games. They're great," added Austin.
Ohio State has nine national title wins. Since the College Football Playoff era began, they have added another two in their bag under former head coach Urban Meyer and current coach Ryan Day.
Michigan Wolverines might have the bragging rights with a 62-53-6 record, but in their last 25 games, it is the Buckeyes who dominated. Day's program has won 18 of the last 25 matchups since 2000. The Buckeyes' last victory came during their last game at Ann Arbor in November 2025.
Meanwhile, in RotoWire's list, two more programs landed in the "most hated" category along with Ohio State.
Notre Dame and Alabama Also Find Themselves on Rotowire’s List
Ohio State has found company in Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Alabama Crimson Tide on the list. Notre Dame, too, has been a standout college football institution.
They have their own TV deal with NBC, giving them constant exposure even in down years. Furthermore, their refusal to fully join a conference (except for partial ACC membership) frustrates rival fans.
The evaluation process that landed Ohio State on the "most hated" list was reported by Roll Tide Wire.
"To map out the most hated college football teams state by state, RotoWire assigned every state in America a single villain -- the FBS program that fans in that state hate the most, drawing exclusively from out-of-state programs," it read.
Alabama is on the same path. From 2009 to 2020, Alabama has won six national titles under Nick Saban. This created resentment among rivals. With their 18 championships, they are the most decorated programs in history.
This is exactly why these colleges are being termed as the "villains" in college football. Though they are loved for their greatness, they are creating an imbalance with their superiority.
