Owe Us an Apology: Fans Erupt As Brendan Sorsby Exits Texas Tech For NFL
After filing a lawsuit against the NCAA for his eligibility to play in the 2026 season, Brendan Sorsby is leaving the Texas Tech Red Raiders and college football. He is declaring for the NFL supplement draft instead.
“BREAKING: QB Brendan Sorsby and Texas Tech are mutually parting ways, @PeteNakos reports. Sorsby will not play College Football in 2026,” On3 wrote in an X post on June 16.
The 22-year-old quarterback was caught in a legal strife with the NCAA, which was investigating him for g******* and placing b***. On3 cited NFL insider Tom Pelissero’s report as its source, which shared that Sorsby is planning to drop his lawsuit on June 16.
With that he would be an eligible draft prospect who has exhausted his college eligibility. This development is a major pivot in Sorby’s career. Earlier this month, a Texas court had granted him a temporary injunction to continue his college football activities.
Judge Ken Curry ruled that prohibiting Sorsby from resuming his football activities would cause him to “suffer probable, imminent, and irreparable injury.”
Sorsby and Texas Tech were heavily scrutinized following this ruling, which temporarily restored his eligibility to play in 2026. The NCAA had banned Sorsby upon learning of his activities.
In four years, he had wagered around $90,000 across college football teams and sports. This included the 2022 Indiana football team, which he was a part of.
Sorsby stated that his reason for indulging was that he was a freshman with “no reasonable chance” to play.
From athletic directors to media personalities, many crirticised Judge Curry’s ruling. As Sorsby looks over a significant move in his football career, fans are deeply unhappy at the development.

“All yall go so worked up just for Tech to make the correct decision. Yall all owe us an apology, took all LEGAL steps, and ultimately made the decision to part ways,” one fan defended Sorsby and Texas Tech against criticism.
One comment thanked the Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond and Big 12 Board of Directors, who filed a lawsuit against Texas Tech and Sorsby. This legal action came hours before this development.
“The whole nation owes the Big 12 commissioner and Oklahoma ag a debt of gratitude for this one. A few hours after a legit lawsuit and Tech and Sorsby crumble like a house of cards,” they posted.
“Question is … will the NFL even take him?” one questioned.
“Every non-Texas Tech fan rn,” one rejoiced at the development and replied with a GIF captioned this.
An SEC fan commented on the precedent Texas Tech set by initially backing Sorsby.
“Texas Tech put themselves in an impossible situation and ruined their reputation over it,” the comment read.
One of the most historic legal battles in college football history has reached a pivotal point. While Sorsby is planning his NFL future, fans won’t look back at his college years with a smile.
