Pat McAfee Sends Emotional Message After Wife Undergoes Emergency C-Section
Pat McAfee and his wife, Samantha, welcomed a baby boy into the world on May 22, but the road to get there was anything but smooth.
Due to a high-risk pregnancy, the decision was made to have an emergency C-Section on Friday night. Now, a few days after that, McAfee shared an update on his X account.
"Baby boy officially entered the world on May 22nd at 10:42 PM as a 6lb 6oz screaming young legend... 10 Toes, 10 Fingers, full head of hair."
The baby, named Midas Robert McAfee, arrived at 36 weeks, four weeks before full term. Because of that, he was sent to the NICU to help his lungs develop further and adjust to life outside the womb.
McAfee further talked about his newborn’s condition now, saying:
"He was able to get his O2 levels high enough to be able to come hang with us in our room," McAfee wrote. He spent roughly 36 hours in the NICU before being released back to the family's room.
Midas was placed on a CPAP, a feeding tube, and put in a heated pod with a heating lamp during his time in the NICU. McAfee described bouncing back and forth between his wife and son throughout.
"Watching Samantha battle thru her recovery has been nothing short of inspiring," he wrote, directly addressing her on X. "I will be sure that our kids will know how much you went thru for them."
Midas, for one, has a very unique name. And McAfee made sure to let the people know the story behind it.
The Meaning Behind the Name Midas Robert McAfee
The name Midas has been close to McAfee's heart for years. He explained that his freshman year high school teacher, Mrs. Nonnenberg, introduced him to Greek Mythology, and the name stuck with him ever since.
"The name is perfect for the boy that Sam and I would like to raise," McAfee wrote.“But in this world that we live in, gold can only come from working your ass off, getting lucky, and having great folks around you. He will be an asset to society, he will treat folks right, and he will work his ass off to help his community achieve their own form of gold."
The middle name Robert is a tribute to Samantha's father, who passed away a few years ago.
"Midas will know his grandfather through our stories and pictures," McAfee wrote. "And we know Bob will be looking out for Midas for all of time."
The family is expected to head home soon, where their three-year-old daughter, Mackenzie, is waiting to meet her baby brother for the first time.
