Ratted Sorsby Out: Cincinnati Faces Fan Fury Over Brendan Sorsby’s Gambling Cover-Up Claim
Things are taking a deeper turn in the Brendan Sorsby case. According to USA Today reports, Cincinnati had been alerted of Sorsby's g****** before the 2025 season.
It would seem that they chose to play him, and this brings them under NCAA scrutiny. Sorsby's agent, Ron Slavin, clearly pointed that out as he spoke to 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
"If anybody should be questioned or catching heat, it should be Cincinnati," said Slavin, "Because they knew for two years and never said anything or didn’t do anything about it. That’s the part of the story that gets lost.”
Still, Cincinnati has denied those accusations. According to 365 Sports, it was in late 2025 when Cincinnati compliance staff, working with NCAA integrity services, identified irregular betting patterns. This was when the program realized Sorsby’s issue was not isolated to his Indiana days.
When Sorsby finally transferred, Cincinnati knew about a potential issue. The full scope of his g******* addiction nearly cost $90,000 in wagers be came out publicly in April 2026 during court filings.
Cincinnati has held its stance against the allegations by Slavin and has issued the following statement.
"We will reiterate what we have said before," reads the statement, "All of our student-athletes receive extensive gambling education multiple times throughout the year, and we would never knowingly play an athlete who violated NCAA sports wagering regulations. If we ever became aware of impermissible wagering, we would report to the NCAA and comply with sanctions."
Still, the fanbase at large is not buying this and is blaming the institute for covering up.
Fans Give Their Harsh Verdict On Cincinnati
Cincinnati might have given its side of the story but the fans are not convinced. Given the circumstances of how things went, they are blaming the University.
The Big 12, which Cincinnati is a part of, uses Prohibet, which is a compliance-driven app every student has to download on their phone. The app notifies universities when athletes attempt to sign up for betting platforms or place prohibited wagers.
Many fans felt Cincinnati had “looked the other way” until the NCAA forced the issue.
"If Cincinnati never knew about the bets, why wouldn’t they come out and say that?" said another fan.
NCAA rules require schools to monitor athletes for gambling violations. Since Sorsby’s betting activity was eventually flagged in late 2025 while he was at Cincinnati, fans believe the school either knew earlier or failed to act quickly enough.
While some blamed Cincinnati, some of the fans directly blamed Sorsby, too.
"He’s a grown a** man , he should take responsibility of his own actions, he needs to S*** and be a man, not a victim," said the fan.
Still, a majority of the fans focused on how Cincinnati handles the case.
"This a terrible look for Cincinnati. I hope the @NCAA strongly considers severe punishment," one comment read.
So what does it mean for his future in the NFL? A fan already has a warning for any team that looks to sign him.
"This guy and his agent spell trouble for any NFL team looking to take a chance," came the straightforward comment.
Sorsby is now entering the NFL Supplemental Draft. His case is unusual because supplemental drafts are typically reserved for players who lose eligibility late or miss the regular draft window.
Brendan Sorsby is now one of the most talked-about figures in college football today, and controversial, too. While less than a week away, a lot can now happen before June 22 finally arrives.
