Recruiting Update: Kamden Lopati Aids Michigan Football to Land 4-star Prospect with 15+ Offers
Michigan Wolverines flipping 2027 quarterback Kamden Lopati from Illinois Fighting Illini felt like a victory in itself. Now, Kyle Whittingham must feel more content about pulling off this move. That's because Lopati is expanding his role and luring a 4-star 2027 prospect with more than 15 offers.
Michigan is making a strong push for Top 100 athlete Bode Sparrow, viewing the Kaysville Davis High School standout as a target for its 2027 class.
“NEW: Top 100 ATH Bode Sparrow said Michigan QB commit Kamden Lopati has already reached out to him about U-M. He's just one of many recruits in Utah showing strong interest in the Wolverines,“ reported On3's Ethan McDowell's tweet on April 15.
Sparrow, who is close with Lopati, said the quarterback has already reached out about Michigan, giving the Wolverines an edge. He also noted that Lopati previously helped get him noticed by Illinois while committed to the Illini.
Sparrow is the No. 1-ranked prospect in Utah and the No. 2 athlete according to On3's rankings. With the new Michigan head coach, Whittingham, stepping into Ann Arbor after two decades as the Utah head coach, Sparrow already has a big reason to choose Michigan.
According to MaxPreps, last season, once again, Sparrow was the focal point of the passing attack, totaling 94 yards and a touchdown. The bulk of his yards came on a long 52-yard catch-and-run play.
He paid a visit to the Wolverines squad on April 9. But Whittingham did not wait for spring. The Wolverines showed serious interest by sending a large group of coaches to Utah in January to see him play basketball and meet with him.
Although the safety room is getting crowded, a top-60 prospect with his versatility is a must-take.
It's only after Lopati's flip that things accelerated. Will the connection between the two turn in Michigan's favor?
Other teams that are interested in the Michigan Wolverines' top 2027 target
Sparrow has picked up more than 15 offers, including the Oklahoma Sooners, Michigan, Oregon Ducks, among others. According to On3, the Sooners have the highest chances, 97.2%.
Oklahoma, one of the nation’s hottest recruiting programs, has made Sparrow a top target. His friend Krew Jones is already in the class. Sparrow has scheduled an official visit to Norman on May 29.
Going by On3's 2027 Industry Ranking football Team Recruiting Rankings, Oklahoma is far ahead of Michigan. Sitting at No.3, they have already locked in 20 recruits. The Wolverines are at No.21 with only six commitments so far.
Along with Oklahoma, Michigan might also feel pressure from the Miami Hurricanes.
“I’m really looking forward to visiting Miami and seeing everything they have to offer,” Sparrow said. “I’ve heard great things, and I’m eager to experience it myself.”
Now you tell us, where do you think Sparrow will land? Let us know in the comments!
