Ryan Day Hit With Setback as Big Ten Rival Gets Major Win
Ryan Day's Ohio State made an offer to Pennsylvania offensive tackle Ryan Robbins, but the in-state prospect chose the Buckeyes' Big Ten rivals instead.
In a significant Big Ten update, Penn State Nittany Lions football secured a commitment from rising prospect Ryan Robbins, which makes him the seventh player in the last two weeks to commit to Penn State.
Robbins, a talented offensive player, had caught the eye of several top programs, including Ohio State.
His commitment to Penn State strengthens an already competitive recruiting class and highlights the Nittany Lions' growing appeal under head coach Matt Campbell.
"I chose Penn State because I have a great relationship with the coaches," Robbins said, per 247Sports. "I really see myself playing for coach Clanton."
For Ohio State and Ryan Day, the setback is less about one player and more about perception.
The Buckeyes have long dominated Big Ten recruiting battles. Even in the 2026 Recruiting Rankings, Ohio State ranks third.
Ryan Robbins Had a Lot of Prospects
Apart from Ohio and Penn State, Ryan Robbins received offers from other programmes as well. Virginia Tech wanted him, and even the Panthers tried hard to land him.
Robbins had a family connection to Virginia Tech. His mother was a basketball player for the Hokies. But since February, Robbins had a tilt towards joining the Nittany Lions.
"Penn State was recruiting me really hard and definitely showed a ton of interest," Robbins said. "I like how coach Campbell is a personable guy and how he treats me and my family. Most importantly, he is heavily involved with the football team and I definitely see why the players love to play for him."
Robbins holds an 88 grade on 247Sports, ranking as the No. 61 offensive tackle and No. 20 prospect in Pennsylvania. The 247Sports Composite has him as the No. 723 player nationally in the 2027 class.
