SEC football program reports itself to NCAA for violating strict rule

Alabama went ahead and reported itself for six Level III NCAA violations between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026. And according to On3, one of them came straight from the football program.

Reporter Nick Kelly of On3 posted the full document listing the violations on X.

According to the NCAA, level III is the lowest tier, and includes "violations that are isolated or limited in nature, provide no more than a minimal recruiting, competitive or other advantage."

However, the football violation is the one that stands out. A member of the football staff made contact with a prospective student-athlete during an evaluation period, a window when direct contact with recruits is strictly prohibited.

That rule exists for a reason. Evaluation periods let coaches watch prospects at events but not approach them directly. Making contact during that window jumps the line before other schools can, which is exactly why the NCAA treats it as a violation.

Alabama moved fast on the consequences. The staff member got a letter of admonishment and was pulled from all recruiting activity for seven days. In-person contact with the athlete involved was banned for 30 days, and phone and electronic communication was cut off for 14 days.

The other five violations came from different sports. A women's soccer coach emailed a prospect before the permitted date. Both the gymnastics and men's tennis programs held end-of-year banquets during finals week, which the NCAA prohibits.

Two student workers were flagged for placing bets on prediction market platform Kalshi, one from Crimson Tide Productions and one from the film department. Both had their positions terminated.

Self-reporting was the best thing Alabama could do, as it showed the importance the school placed on integrity. In fact, programs that catch issues early and come forward voluntarily tend to get more lenient treatment than those caught later.

A harsher verdict by the NCAA could hamper the athletics program, which has been doing quite well recently.

Alabama football enters year three under Kalen DeBoer after first CFP appearance

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer walks into year three off a solid 2025 campaign. Per On3, the Crimson Tide secured eleven wins and Alabama's first CFP appearance under his watch.

They knocked out Oklahoma in the opening round, then ran into Indiana at the Rose Bowl in the quarterfinals. And that's the bar they have set now. Anything short of a deep run, and questions will start.

Alabama's 2027 class is currently ranked No. 48 as per 247Sports composite rankings. A program that catches its own issues and comes clean on them doesn't hurt itself on the trail and Alabama is proof of that.
