SEC QB's Gift to Lionel Messi Goes Viral After Argentina Match

Texas' Kyle Field has seen a lot of big moments. But on Saturday night, it was not a football game that had 90,000 people buzzing. Argentina came to College Station to face Honduras in a World Cup tune-up, and Lionel Messi was in the building.

Messi did not play, as he is managing a hamstring injury ahead of Argentina's group stage opener against Algeria on 16 Jun. Argentina still won 2-0, with Lautaro Martínez scoring and assisting on the night. But the highlight of the day came after the match.

After the final whistle, Texas A&M Aggies QB Marcel Reed was waiting outside the Argentina locker room. He had a maroon Aggies jersey ready for Messi. It had "To Leo, Gig 'Em" written on it, along with Reed's name and No. 10 on the back, per Yahoo Sports.

The two shook hands and posed for a photo. Reed was joined by teammate RB Rueben Owens II, WR Isaiah Horton, and former Texas A&M star Von Miller.

Both Reed and Owens wore Argentina kits to the game. A photo posted by Texas A&M Football on X captured the whole group together.

It was simple and genuine. One emerging college star and a soccer legend preparing for what could be his last World Cup run. And it happened right there in Aggieland.

Same number, different sport, and one moment that went everywhere online instantly.

Reed Is Building Something Real at Texas A&M Going Into 2026

Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed is not just showing up at Kyle Field to meet soccer legends. He is walking into 2026 as the guy the Aggies are building around, and the connection he has with his teammates off the field matters.

Bringing Owens, wide receiver Isaiah Horton, and former Aggies star Von Miller into the photo with Messi says a lot about the kind of leader he is becoming.

Isaiah Horton's transfer in from Alabama brings size and experience to the offense, giving Reed real weapons around him this year. If he takes the next step with Horton and others around him, Texas A&M's ceiling is wide open this season.

The Aggies will be playing at the stadium against Missouri State on September 5, the opening weekend of the football season.
