Sherrone Moore Blamed for Michigan's Poor Playoff Run in 2025
The Michigan Wolverines had a rollercoaster season under Sherrone Moore in 2025. They did not reach the playoffs, and a head coach has held him accountable for the program’s late-season failures.
“The second that Sherrone Moore was gone, they actually got to run that roster,” a Big Ten coach told Athlon Sports anonymously.
This report came out on May 18 and featured candid opinions of coaches of the conference. The coach also shared their take on this year’s players.
“I love that roster… There are four or five players in that freshman class who’ll contribute immediately, and they had a bunch of freshmen last year who contributed,” he added.
The Wolverines went 9-4 in a season marred by rumors that the program could fire Moore.
“No credible details surfaced, and Moore continued his duties… participating in a news conference Monday to discuss Michigan's upcoming game against Texas in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl,” ESPN wrote on December 11.
Two days after the conference, the Wolverines showed Moore the door after they fired him with cause. Earlier in the season, Moore was suspended in a separate case. He was strictly barred from participating in team activities after he indulged in Level II NCAA violations.
As for the Wolverines, they faced a wipeout 27-9 loss to arch-rivals, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and lost out on a playoff berth. This loss stung as it snapped the Wolverines’ four-game winning streak and the Buckeyes’ first victory against them since 2019.
The Wolverines then played against the Texas Longhorns in December and lost 41-27. They are now being coached by Kyle Whittingham, who left the Utah Utes after 21 years.
Although they are yet to play, another coach believes the Wolverines will win big this season.
Big Ten Coach Projects The Michigan Wolverines To Win
The Wolverines fell short last season. However, under new head coach Kyle Whittingham and an improved roster, they are to be watched out for.
“I think they can win the conference. It’s not a group with a lot of household names, but there’s a lot of depth with really good players,” Athlon Sports reported an anonymous Big Ten coach.
While this coach did not specify any names, another opined that quarterback Bryce Underwood, along with wide receivers Andrew Marsh, Jaime Ffrench, and JJ Buchanan, would handle offense this year.
Meanwhile, cornerback coach Jernaro Gilford is impressed by defensive backs Shamari Earls and Smith Snowden. Earls committed to the Wolverines after he flipped from South Carolina and Georgia. Snowden is a transfer from the Utah Utes.
All eyes would be on these players, watching to see if they do better than in the past season. What do you think?
