6-foot ball of muscle: Kyle Whittingham Raves About Savion Hiter Ahead of Spring Game

Savion Hiter is turning heads at spring practice. Coach Kyle Whittingham described the 2026 recruit as a '6-foot ball of muscle' during recent drills. The young running back has already established himself as a physical force ahead of the April 18 spring game.

According to On3’s Chris Low, the young talent is already standing out in early practices ahead of the Spring Game, which is scheduled to be held on April 18, 2026.

“A 6-foot ball of muscle. He's [Savion Hiter] tough, has great contact balance, a smart, smart young man who does a good job with pass protection,” Whittingham stated, according to On3's X post.

At the combine setting, he recorded a 1.52 10-yard split, proving his fast short-area burst, a 4.12 shuttle showing good agility, and a 36-inch vertical jump demonstrating strong explosiveness, according to Andrew Irvins, the 247Sports Director of Scouting.

He was on special teams during his sophomore year, while also recording 1,187 yards and 11 TDs as a running back. He averaged more than 10 yards per carry during his time at Louisa County High School.

Whittingham also hinted that Hiter is willing to work on the other aspects of his game as well.

“He’s still got some technique things to iron out, but he’s not afraid," he stated. "He sticks his nose right in there and has great hands. He's the whole package.”

In addition, offensive coordinator Jason Beck also praised Hiter, according to the Detroit Free Press. His effort and competitive mindset stood out just as much as his ability on film. Even when he is wrong, it doesn’t stop Hiter from trying again.

“He’s in there, and he’s going as hard as you can go, whether he’s right or wrong, he’s just going,” he said.

And it seems the O-line Jim Harding might have been a key reason for this improvement, as Whittingham acknowledged in a recent interview, suggesting that the team had an excellent mentor in Harding, according to Wolverines Wire.

However, other than the coaches, a fellow teammate has also taken an interest in Hiter.

Jordan Marshall shares his Perspective on Savion Hiter

Despite a shoulder injury during the Northwestern game in the fourth quarter last year, RB Jordan Marshall has been participating in spring activities and is expected to lead the room.

So, after Tony Alford, the Wolverines’ RB coach, made Savion Hiter a long-term priority target and recruited him. Marshall praised Hiter after seeing his unflinching ability to keep going.

“He wants to learn, he listens when we ask him to do something. He’s so willing to learn, he’s excited to get better," Marshall said about him. "And he not only listens to me, but no matter who it is in the running back room, and that’s something that a good player needs to have.”

With so many expectations surrounding him, it will be interesting to see what he shows during the spring game.
