Snubbed on draft night, Diego Pavia runs out of luck after Ravens cut him off from the roster
Ever since the end of his college football season, former Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia has been running out of luck. First, he went second in the Heisman Trophy race in December and then went undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft in April. However, his latest snub came in July.
As per the latest reports, the Baltimore Ravens' official X account confirmed the news on July 23.
“We have waived QB Diego Pavia,” they wrote on X.

Ravens’ confirmation on X came as they made space for veteran center Ethan Pocic to take Pavia's place on the 90-player roster by waiving Pavia.
Before ending up in Baltimore, Pavia visited the Carolina Panthers in April as one of their top-30 prospects and was viewed as a developmental option behind Bryce Young. The Panthers, however, passed on drafting him.
Then the Ravens signed him as an undrafted free agent to a three-year deal. However, Jesse Minter could not find confidence in Pavia, which hints at the rookie quarterback failing to leave his mark needed to contend for the 53-man roster.
This snub came after Pavia led Vanderbilt to the first 10-win season in program history. Even though he faced doubts for his short stature and 5-foot-10 frame, he gained attention in college.
He wrapped up his four-year college football career with 10,255 yards and 88 touchdowns.
Even after signing, the Ravens decided not to keep Pavia. Lamar Jackson remains the clear starter, while Tyler Huntley's return gives Baltimore an experienced backup, with them relying on two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster.
However, for Pavia, it’s a tough road ahead.
Diego Pavia finds himself amid an uncertain NFL future
Pavia was expected to compete for the third quarterback spot behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley, with Skylar Thompson and Joe Fagnano also battling for the role. However, he is now left without a team.
Pavia will now go through waivers, where other teams have the chance to claim him for training camp. If no team picks him up, he will become a free agent and can sign with any club.
Sports Illustrated analyst Mike Kadlick gave a rundown of what’s next in store for Pavia.
“Pavia will now look for another opportunity to compete as training camps begin over the next 10 days,” he wrote. “While finding another NFL home at this stage of the calendar may be difficult, as most rosters are largely set, injuries, roster shuffling and other factors could ultimately lead to a club needing another camp arm.”
Sporting News analyst has listed probable landing spots for Pavia, too. For instance, the Cleveland Browns are a possibility given the quarterback dilemma they are going through between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson.
The New York Jets' quarterback depth is also bleak, with Geno Smith starting and rookie Cade Klubnik and second-year passer Brady Cook behind him.
