The Painful Moment When Deion Sanders Realized Shilo Wasn’t Meant to Be a QB

Deion Sanders’ older son, Shilo, took after him and became a defensive player. However, there was a clear moment when he knew that Shilo wasn’t cut out to be a quarterback.

In a clip shared by Did You Know This Thing on Instagram, Sanders was looking at a young Shilo throw the ball. He then revealed the conversation between them and Shilo’s younger brother, Shedeur.

“Oh, look how Shedeur, oh that’s Shilo. You know, when he threw that duck, I told him, “Let's go. It's over,” the Colorado Buffs head coach said. “No, no, your brother has it from now. You leave it alone. You’re not a quarterback.”

Deion was right about Shilo, who eventually became a safety. His collegiate career lasted six years and spanned three programs. Shilo racked up 136 solo tackles, 48 assisted, defended 9 passes, and caught six interceptions.

Despite these stats, his pro career did not pan out as either would have hoped for. Both his sons, former Colorado players, declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. Shedeur, 24, faced a significant draft slide and was picked 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns. Shilo, on the flip side, went undrafted.

The defensive back signed a three-year, $2.9 million undrafted free agent (UFFA) contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The franchise, however, waived him after he was involved in a physical altercation with Zach Davidson in the preseason.

Shilo has not landed any other team since.

This throwback video is devastating, as Shilo recently made a major career move. In a video on his YouTube channel, Shilo recently revealed that he has stopped training for the NFL altogether.

“It takes a special kind of guy to see the light at the end of the tunnel…and I don’t think there’s any light in my tunnel,” the 26-year-old said.

Apart from his on-field struggles, Shilo also dealt with other issues.

Deion Sanders Reveals Son Shilo’s Health Scare

A Marca article on May 22 reported that Deion Sanders opened up about his older son Shilo’s health issues. In a college game, Shilo made a hard tackle, which resulted in internal injury.

Shilo then confirmed the incident on the Big Dogg Chico podcast and revealed the gravity of the injury.

“It was like three of those that game, and I made one tackle. I made one tackle, and I fell. I fell on the ground, and it was towards the end of the game, and it messed up my liver. I had to pee blood after that,” Shilo said.

Deion, however, took pride in his son and how he played that game.

“That was a nice little beat down there. I got pictures of you in your uniform in my room, son. I still love it. Those were good times,” the former NFL defensive back revealed.

Shilo’s football career may not have turned out how he or his father had hoped for. However, that allows him to pivot in any direction he wants. What do you think is Shilo’s career?
