3-Star Edge Rusher Makes Commitment Decision on Michigan State
Standing at No.50 in the On3 2027 Team Recruiting Rankings, the Michigan State Spartans made headlines. For the second time in a week, they added a player to their 2027 recruiting class.
Lawrence Kanneh, the three-star EDGE, officially announced his commitment to Michigan State on Saturday, June 6. He is the fourth player from Ohio to commit to Michigan State in the 2027 class.
He announced the decision through a social media post. Kanneh is currently ranked No. 856 nationally and No. 71 among edge rushers in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports.
The 6-foot-4 and 220-pound defensive end chose Michigan State over 11 other offers, including the South Florida Bulls and Virginia Cavaliers, among others. Defensive line coach Winston DeLattiboudere and rush ends coach Andrew Bindelglass recruited him.
Kanneh recorded 12.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss as a junior. His wingspan has also been reported at 80 inches, which is 6'8". Those long arms will give him projectability as he looks to take his game to the Big Ten level.
His commitment comes a day after Jefferson cornerback Cordaro Parham committed to the Spartans. Now, it will be interesting to see how Michigan State utilizes his skill set at the next level.
Adding another commitment to the class, Michigan State has an important visit this weekend.
Recruiting Drive Continues for Michigan State Spartans
With Kanneh's commitment, Michigan State has strengthened its defensive line further. With this addition, the total number comes to 11. The Spartans also added Brendan Fitzgerald, a 2027 wide receiver and the son of Spartans head coach Pat Fitzgerald. He committed to Michigan State as a preferred walk-on Saturday, June 6.
This is likely only the midway point of Michigan State's 2027 recruiting class. The Spartans are expected to add several more players before the cycle is complete.
Newly appointed head coach Pat has repeatedly said that he wants to build this program through high school recruiting.
"Projection, for me, is in high school," he said back in January. "I'll project high school kids, or maybe a chosen freshman or two that are in the portal down the road. That'll probably be guys that we recruited out of high school that maybe went somewhere else."
Now that Kanneh is pledged to Michigan State, the Spartans' focus shifts to tight end Ryan Pankey. They are the only Power Four program to offer Pankey thus far on May 23. The three-star tight end is visiting campus this weekend and remains one of the targets.
After Kanneh's commitment, will the Spartans' luck favor to seal Pankey's commitment? Share your thoughts.
