Tom Brady's Prideful Message Before Dusty May Made Michigan History
Iconic quarterback Tom Brady, who is also a devout Michigan Wolverines alum, was among the many who congratulated head men's basketball coach Dusty May after a brilliant career feat.
The Wolverines faced off against a promising UConn in the national championship for the 2025-2026 season. This was pretty much a David-and-Goliath fight, as the Huskies were the underdog compared to Michigan, the No. 1 seed. Brady showed up to the game with his kids, in full support of his alma mater.
"No busted brackets over here… GO BLUE 〽️💙💛 @umichbball bring it home tonight!" the former quarterback shared on Instagram.
The University of Michigan’s official Instagram handle also replied with a comment saying, “Go, Tom! Go Blue!”
Brady sure had a worthwhile time attending the game. With a 69-63 victory over the Huskies, the Wolverines brought home the national championship for the first time since 1989. Dusty May became the second-ever Michigan coach to win the title after Steve Fisher. May also have achieved this amazing feat in just two years of his Michigan tenure.
While Brady was at Michigan, he did win the National Championship as part of the 1997 team. But he was only a backup at that time, and finished with only 103 passing yards. Having never tasted the true joy of winning the national title, he still shows up to support Michigan whenever they enter the postseason. That is, regardless of whether it happens on the gridiron or basketball court.
At one point, Brady even hoped that his son would suit up in Michigan colors.
Tom Brady wanted the Wolverines to recruit his son for basketball
Every Michigan fan wants the Brady legacy to continue at Ann Arbor. In 2025, the famed quarterback gave them an update to fuel that fire. He shared a snap of his son, Benjamin, dunking the ball through the nets in a way that caught their attention.
"He got game 100 [percent]," Brady wrote on his Instagram story. "Future Wolverine @umichbasketball."
Of course, Benjamin Brady comes gifted with athletic skills. But he's also made it apparent to his family that he has other interests, apart from sport. But Benjamin likes to play football, following in his father's footsteps. But being the son of the university's most famous alum, Benjamin always has a chance at playing for Michigan.
It'd give Tom Brady more reasons to visit Ann Arbor, for sure.
