2 Prospects Could Soon Deliver Huge Recruiting Boost to Michigan

In the wake of Sherrone Moore's firing, the Michigan Wolverines lost 25 players in the 2026 transfer portal season. They are now trying to fix the gap with the 2027 recruiting class. So far, the Wolverines have added talented players, including Quinton Burrell and Xavier Muhammad. Now there are others lining up.

As reported by Yardbarker, two names are now doing the rounds to join the Wolverines: four-star defensive back Tavares Harrington and three-star athlete Lundon Hampton.

Harrington is set to make his official decision on May 22nd, as reported by On3’s Vice President of Recruiting, Steve Wiltfong. Michigan already has the recruitment edge as it landed Harrington, who played alongside Burrell at Mount Carmel.

According to Rivals, he is ranked as the No. 124 player in the 2027 class. The 6'3" athlete was also a first-team All-Conference in his junior season. He accumulated 50 tackles, nine pass breakups, and three interceptions in 2025.

Hampton is another hotshot who will look to bolster Michigan. The 6'2", 195-pound athlete can play both ways.

Though Hampton is rated as an athlete by major recruiting platforms, Michigan is pursuing him for the running back position, while also considering him for defense at linebacker or safety.

Tony Alford again is looking over recruiting Hampton, as he hails from the athlete's high school, Kenowa Hills (Grand Rapids, MI).

However, their in-state rivals, the Michigan State Spartans, are running the race for Hampton. He hasn't given a possible date of joining yet. Meanwhile, all these new additions have improved Michigan's recruitment rankings.

Michigan Football Recruiting Jumps To No. 12

As soon as Charles Woodson Jr. committed to the Wolverines on May 15, they stepped up in the rankings. They started from 29, but after Quinton Burrell's commitment, they gained 12 places.

Now with Tyson Robinson also committing, they have moved up even further. According to the On3 2027 Football Team Recruiting Rankings, they are now on No. 12. However, now with the Wolverines still awaiting to hear back from Hampton and Harrington, they might land within the No.10.

The Wolverines are now looking to make good on those numbers. They are slowly taking the lead over Big Ten rivals like Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Washington. Only USC, Oregon, Ohio State, and UCLA are ahead at the moment.

The Wolverines are constantly keeping the rivals' ranking on the move. UCLA is presently at no 11, Oregon is 9th, Ohio State is 8th, while USC is at 4th.

Will Michigan be able to beat them in the recruiting race? Share your thoughts.
