Urgent NFL warning sent to 2027 draft’s top prospect Dante Moore

Quarterback Dante Moore had a real chance to enter the 2026 NFL Draft. He turned it down, chose to stay at Oregon for one more year, and now the pressure of that decision sits squarely on his shoulders.

While Moore has put up solid stats, SB Nation analyst Doug Farrar warns they won't be enough for the NFL, highlighting critical areas the QB must fix.

"The primary issue with Moore as a pocket passer at this point is that he needs to speed up his reads and throws. He struggles to consistently throw with anticipation, and it will behoove him in 2026 to reduce the moving parts — both physically and mentally — to deal with the speed and complexity of NFL defenses," Farrar wrote on July 10.

Moore started 15 games for Oregon last year and finished with 3,565 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Those turnovers are bound to increase if he continues to hold the ball too long instead of making quick pre-snap reads.

"If Dante Moore stays put in a developmental sense, he could be in for a rough early go at the professional level. It’s why he was wise to go back to school, and why this upcoming season is of crucial importance — not only for him, but for the 2027 QB class overall," Doug Farrar wrote on SB Nation.

Moore explained his thinking when he made the decision to return in January, a few days after Oregon's 56-22 CFP Semifinal loss to Indiana.

"I just want to do what's best for my situation, especially as a quarterback," Moore told SportsCenter in January. "I'll be coming back to Oregon for one more year, being able to play for the Oregon Ducks and reach our goal and be national champions."

That is actually a smart way to think about it. A quarterback who is not ready is better off developing in college than burning a roster spot in the NFL.

The 2025 numbers look good on paper. His passer rating was 111.8. Outside the pocket, he was even sharper at 127.6.

But nine fumbles last season are a problem. NFL teams clock every single snap. Sloppy ball security gets you benched fast at that level.

2027 draft class is stacked with names that could knock Dante Moore off the top spot

The 2027 quarterback class is deep. Arch Manning, Julian Sayin, LaNorris Sellers, CJ Carr, Trinidad Chambliss and Brendan Sorsby are all in the conversation alongside Moore, per SB Nation.

That's at least eight quarterbacks NFL teams will seriously evaluate. Moore enters the season as the likely top name in the class, but that position isn't locked in by any means.

Farrar made the stakes very clear. If Moore doesn't show development in his pocket processing and ball security in 2026, the draft board will reflect that. There are other quarterbacks in this class ready to move up if he stands still.

Do you think Dante Moore will cement himself as the No. 1 overall pick with a big 2026 season? Let us know in the comments.
