Wolverines pursue elite Texas prospect with impressive track record

Michigan is not wasting any time in the 2028 cycle. The latest offer went to linebacker Jet Thomas, a sophomore out of All Saints' Episcopal School in Fort Worth, Texas.

"Blessed to receive an offer from @UMichFootball. #5TLB," he posted on X, per Roundtable.

He is only a sophomore, but the tape is already doing the talking. Last season, Thomas recorded 98 total tackles, including 58 solo stops and 2 sacks. Those numbers earned him First-Team All-District, Second-Team TAPPS All-State, and Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors.

He's also a seven-time wrestling state champion. And this offer left him feeling incredibly blessed, per Jet Thomas' post on X.

Thomas' wrestling background explicitly shows up in his football tape through his hand-fighting, leverage, and ability to shed blocks in tight spaces.

His team has won back-to-back TAPPS Division II titles in 2024 and 2025. Last season, Thomas went even further. He was the only underclassman in Texas private school football to make the All-State defensive team.

He is already 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds. Defensive coordinator Jay Hill prioritises linebackers who can stop the run while moving fluidly in open space, and Thomas fits that mold perfectly.

Michigan has been heavy on linebacker recruitment all offseason. This offer fits right into that. The staff is making it clear 2028 is already on their radar at the position.

Getting ahead of a recruit like this matters. Before his recruitment goes national, Michigan wants to have a foundation built so they are first in line once competing offers start flooding in.

Jet Thomas is already on Dave Campbell’s Texas Football top 2028 watch list

Dave Campbell's Texas Football is the most respected recruiting publication in the state. Getting named to their top 2028 watch list as a sophomore is a real signal of how highly Thomas is regarded locally, per On3.

Michigan landed four-star linebacker Fredderick Ford earlier this cycle after Ford chose the Wolverines over LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. The Thomas offer shows the staff is already building the next wave at the position.

Linebackers coach Alex Whittingham has been active early in the 2028 cycle. Getting Thomas on campus in Ann Arbor for a game-day visit is the next logical step in building this relationship into something real.

Do you think Michigan can land Jet Thomas before his recruitment blows up nationally? Let us know in the comments.
